JULY 27 1940

On this day,one of my favorite movie cartoon characters makes his
official debut---when Bugs Bunny first appears on the silver screen in
"A Wild Hare." The wisecracking rabbit had evolved through several
earlier short films. As in many future episodes of Bugs Bunny
cartoons, "A Wild Hare" features Bugs as the would-be dinner for
frustrated hunter Elmer Fudd.

Elsewhere Billboard magazine starts regularly publi****ng its expanded
bestseller charts.

JULY 27 1942

Peggy Lee records her first hit record in New York City this day.
Singing with the Benny Goodman band Miss Lee records her version of
the Lil Green blues number "Why Don't You Do Right" for Columbia
Records

JULY 27 1955

Chuck Berry's "Maybellene" debuts on the R&B chart this day

JULY 27 1958

Fans of rock & roll music are warned today that tuning into music on
the car radio can cost them more money. Researchers from the Esso gas
company say the rhythm of rock & roll can cause the driver to be foot
heavy on the pedal, making them waste fuel

Sheb Wooley performs "The Purple People Eater" on "The Ed Sullivan
Show". Gisele McKenzie,Gordon MaCrae and Paul Hampton also guest
