RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #257 (GOLQ257)
The Coasters achieved their first 500++ score ever, winning GOLQ257 by a
nose.
The GenaTeam and the team of Randy Price and Peter Morley tied for second
place,
missing only #T2. Team Teitelbaum achieved their first 500 (going back to
GOLQ004) and was joined by Will McCorry in a tie for fourth place. These
two
fourth place teams were the only ones to realize that GOLQ257 is a summer
rerun
of GOLQ182, from March of 2002, with different clues and different
tie-breakers.
The mean and median scores for GOLQ182 were 411 and 480, respectively,
while
those for this quiz were 470 and 486. This quiz had eleven fewer entrants
which may account for the higher averages.
Tom Pillion and Rick Falkenstein (the original authors of GOLQ182) have
already
posted GOLQ258.

#T1) Collins Kids, The: "I'm In My Teens" (1956) [-] {-}
I had never heard of the Collins Kids (Lorrie and Larry Collins) until
I
saw them this April at the Ponderosa Stomp in New Orleans. They were
full
of energy and they put on a hell of a performance from 1:00 to 2:00 in
the
morning. Youtube has a clip of them performing a song called "I'm In
My
Teens" on "The Steve Allen Show," but the song is different from the
song
that made it onto the 1956 single.
I had wanted to use the song "Hot Rod" in the quiz but it turns out
not to
have been released as a single in the GOLQ timeframe. Here's clip of
them
doing "Hot Rod" on a 1957 TV show:
Larry is the writer of the 1972 Tanya Tucker C&W hit "Delta Dawn,"
which
Helen Reddy took to #1 on the pop charts in 1973.
I wrote my baby, from Vietnam, and this is what I said:
I want to see you
You know that I want to see you
I, yes I do now, want to see you
Yes I do
#T2) Mighty Hannibal, The: "Hymn No. 5" (1966) [-] {21}
Here's another performer I hadn't heard of until I saw him at the
Ponderosa
Stomp this year. During the second night of the show, I was talking
to a
blind guy in his seventies standing next to me. He was hardly frail
but I
was not prepared to see this same fellow on stage thirty minutes later
commanding everyone's rapt attention with a dynamic performance. He
sang
several songs including "Hymn No. 5" and "Jerkin' The Dog." You can
see a
clip of the latter from the show at
<http://youtube.com/watch?v=6G61E-7KxTU>
You can also get a laugh out of this clip of him doing the song on a
'60s
TV show: <http://youtube.com/watch?v=mBI-CDxqu4o>.
