Dobie Gray - Drift Away - 1973

by Uni <no.email@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 6, 2008 at 09:10 AM

I don't think I had this song on any other various artist compilations,
so I ripped it from that Madacy Entertainment CD, with the monophonic
"Shambala"; touched it up in Goldwave; encoded it to MP3 from a 32 bit
Wave file, in Audacity.

Most everything I post is snipped from a 256/kbps MP3, but converted
back to a Wave file for editing. Sound Distortion from over processing?
Negligible!
Third order Harmonic Distortion doesn't (low bit rate MP3) encode well,
and neither does tape hiss, since it's full of harmonics!

Anyway, I'm sure most everyone knows I enjoy stereo sound over
monophonic! I also admire the sound of FM Stereo radio, due to its sound
processing. I gather the widening of analog Stereo broadcasts occurred
because of the limited, 30 DB?, channel separation.

I always listen to songs with 3D Depth added, it highlights the channel
differences and attenuates the common channel content, such as vocals.
Since I can't MP3 encode with 3D Depth added (hardware related), I had
to play the song in Audacity and record it with Windows Sound Recorder,
then MP3 encode that Wave file. That's right, even another transition
added! If it's legacy, I use it, even Windows ME with 866 MHz horsepower!

Below is the same song snippet, first being the non 3D Depth version;
the second being with 3D Depth added.

What one sounds more like FM Stereo radio?

What one do you like better? Be honest!

As I'm often accused of seeking attention, I am not, I just want YOUR
opinion. And since Mr. Gray had a '60's hit, that is the reason for the
cross-post! Thank you!
