I thank everyone who responded to my questions for their superb
responses and I look forward to learning more on this subject.

I'll take on board all your advice, especially regarding Wikipedia and
thank you for the link to www.musictheory.net. It makes it easier to
think of the scale as the tonic being the centre. It gets confusing
when I try to think of start and end, since they are the first and
last notes of two octaves.

This gives me something to practice and think about regarding my
learning of the diatonic harmonica. Playing my key of C instrument -
in second position, I could start and end the scale on a G note - the
dominant.
