If you want a live illustration in a computer, you might pick down Scala
<http://www.xs4all.nl/~huygensf/scala/>.
It can play all sorts of
scales, but do something simple:

Start the keyboard "play", select notation system E12 (12-equal
temperament), and set "Scale preset". You now have a standard piano
keyboard. Select mode, and chose
   2 2 1 2 2 2 1 G.Lydian, M.Ionian, M.Hypolydian, Major...
Now, only the major key notes on the keyboard are highlighted. Then
change the "first degree" number in the mode window, and you can see how
the major key slides through all possibilities.

The only problem here, relative traditional key signatures, is that the
flats and sharps are named quite arbitrarily. The reason is tha the
notation derives from not from 12-ET. So if you want to get that
illustrated, choose say E31.

Have fun.
