Generally slash chord symbols that use a diagonal slash are just 
alternate bass notes.
B/C means a B maj triad over a C bass, aka Cdim(maj7).
Someone attempting to use diagonal slashes to indicate a true poly-chord 
would have to use more text.
Eg. Bmaj/Cmaj

A horizontal slash is sometimes used to indicate a poly-chord, but this 
convention is not well-known or in common use.
eg.
D
-
C
would mean a D triad above a C triad.
