And you may not realize this, but your progressions is really just a
slight reharmonization of the classic Imaj7 VIm7 IIm7 V7 Imaj7
progression.

Cmaj7 and Em7 are what is called like-function substitutes for one
another. In C major, C, Em and Am are all said to have Tonic function in
the key (although Em and Am are much more ambiguous and may function
differently depending on the specifics of the progression). Basically
they have a lot of common tones and can often be swapped for each other
without changing much more than the root movement. You're using Em7
where Cmaj7 usually goes. Consider this: Cmaj9 is just Em7/C.

VIm7 is often changed to a dom7 chord with the same root (i.e. Am7
bercomes A7). The functional analysis of this chord is not "VI7", it's
"V7/IIm" (V7 of IIm, i.e. the V7 chord in the key of D minor). This
implies that a secondary key, the key of D minor, is active at this
point. V7/V is often substituted by its tritone sub, Sub7/IIm (A7 is
subbed with Eb7).

V7 is often substituted with its SubV7 (G7 is subbed with Db7).

So now our root motion is:
E Eb D Db C
just like your chord progression.

You're using Ebmaj7 rather than Eb7, which is also a fairly common move
too. In the key of C major, Ebma7 is looked at as a borrowed chord from
the key of C minor, btw.

So, the more usual way this progression usually pops up is:
Em7 Ebmaj7 Dm7 Db7

You're using partial voicings of both Dm7 and Db7, by omitting the F
from both chords, and I'm not sure this is *really* what you want to hear.

Some of the other typical ways that the root movement of a I VI II V
progression gets varied via the introduction of tritone subs and the
changing of the quality of the various chords are:

Cmaj7 Am7 Dm7 G7 C
Emaj7 A7 D7 G7 C
Emaj7 Eb7 Ab7 Db7 C
Cmaj7 Am7 Ab7 G7 C
Cmaj7 Eb7 Abmaj7 G7 C
Cmaj7 Ebmaj7 Abmaj7 Dbmaj7 C

Etc. etc. etc.
