I was catapulting myself back to the debate we had in the earlier
thread and skipping ahead to the kind of problems which can occur with
attempts to form things such as a diminished unison.

What I meant to say was that the direction is irrelevant, it's the
absolute difference between the notes that counts. There are a couple
of tricky situations which are best handled by proceeding in an
orderly manner, i.e. by always reckoning up from the lowest *pitch*,
not necessarily *note name*, or always reckoning down from the highest
pitch.
