I only wish to comment "An interval is just a measured distance" :

The measure of an object isn't the object itself.
Amongst properties of measures, there is the fact that two measures
may said to be equal. If this is to be an interesting property, then it
means that measures of two different objects may be equal ;-)
For example C-Fb and C-E are two different objects with equal
measures.
