Is there an elegant, one- or two-word term for the characteristic of a
single melodic line to imply two distinct lines, a la Bach, Charlie
Parker, or countless other Western musicians, or the practice of
creating such a line?
Someone I spoke with once used "triangulation", which sure sounded
neat but I haven't since seen any support for the use of the term.
Such lines do often tend to have either convergent or divergent
aspects to them, so in a sense I guess a kind of triangle-shape is
hinted at, but "triangulation" is a term of indirect measurement in
geometry, isn't it?
I just figured since I do it it would be handy to have a simpler label
for it than my admittedly clumsy description of it, and my research
efforts have netted me bupkis.
