I=92ve long been fascinated by the idea of =93groove,=94 i.e. the physical
connection between performer/artist/composer and their audience. I=92ve
never seen any theory books discussing groove, and so am soliciting
ideas or lines of inquiry relating to grooves. It=92s a physical
connection in that groove, or as I prefer, entrainment, is what causes
your feet to tap or your head to bob or your mind to quiet; or entices
you to kiss the being whom you=92ve come to the performance with.
The term entrainment is mostly used in quantum physics to describe
that =93spooky action at a distance=94 which subatomic particles exhibit.
On another newsgroup, I wrote: =93groove is an entrainment between
listener and performer. It unfolds over time & requires sufficient
duration to develop the entrainment. *All* music that has become
popular establishes a groove.=94 Of course by all popular music I mean
just that, including the western classical, rock, jazz, blues,
country, etc., as well as international forms.
If any of this makes sense to all the excellent theoreticians here on
r.m.t, I would appreciate feedback.
